One of my favourite albums of the year so far. I like the data sonification concept, but the synth and instrumental additions are sublime. This was clearly put together with a lot of care and attention. Definitely rewards repeated listening, with a lot of layers and quiet details to be discovered.

I studied data sonification as part of my master's, and I must say this is one of the more succesful musical sonification projects I've come across. It is not easy to create convincing musical structures while at the same time allowing the listener to sense the data on which the composition is based. This project succeeds in doing just that. Very evocative, I enjoyed it a lot!

l listened to the album on the Bandcamp listening party stream and loved it. Even hearing it on my phone, through cheap little speakers, it sounded eerily beautiful, so I'm looking forward to listening to it on cd, through a half decent system, so I can really appreciate its subtleties and nuances.

I was part of a meteorological team when I was in the US Air Force, and I’m fascinated to find these compositions that combine my love of meteorology and music!!😊👏🌊☔️☂️🌪️🌦️
Favorite track: Force 10 Pts. 1 & 2.

I have been very lucky to hear this album before release. I think the whole concept of the album is fascinating and this work has been created with so much love, care and attention to detail. The end result is a superb listening experience that takes time to unfold and rewards repeated listening. Going to get lots of my listening time in the coming months…congrats to Mining.

Because, I first dismissed it as boring. Then I attended the Mining Listening Party on 6th March 24 and I was able to chat with the folks that made the album, and with some other fans. After dismissing it, I would advise anyone with second thoughts to listen to Chimet from start to finish, with a clear mind and decide for yourself. I now embrace it and want to go back to it time and time again. That ain't no bad thing.
Favorite track: Petrichor.

Chimet is a meteorological and sea state algorithmic sonification project.
Chichester West Pole Beacon, also known as Chimet, is a comprehensive weather information system recording conditions in Hayling Bay, West Sussex, both in real-time and historically. Located at 50° 45'.45 N, 00° 56'.59 W, approximately one mile from the entrance to Chichester Harbour, the instrumentation on Chimet records data including air and water temperature; barometric pressure; wind speed and direction; water depth; wave height, period and frequency; and time of day.
Over a period of seven days in October 2017, the devastating Atlantic Hurricane Ophelia fed straight into another weather event, known as Storm Brian in the UK. MINING mapped the data from this storm onto various musical values and parameters, including harmonic range, pitch, density and volume - resulting in a continuous piece of electronic sound design that directly traces the contours of the two storm systems. After several iterations, improvised instrumental performances were added on piano, cello and synthesiser.
The original 2,016 lines of source data streams (collected every five minutes between 0030 on October 16th 2017 and 0025 on the 23rd) have also been visualised in the album artwork, with each of the 504 LP sleeves possessing a unique vertical visualisation strip and individual timestamp, corresponding to a 20-minute period of the storm sequence.
In making Chimet, MINING approached both the data and its musical results as a locus of synergy, allowing their respective passions for sailing, weather, sea, sound design and improvisation to intersect and manifest in a singular musical statement.

A break-through work for me. One of these albums that seem to be some freakish sort of mirror to me. I deeply connect with the flow and the go. dbdotdot
Stunning synthwork and chaotic rhythms define the excellent new album from Racine, which feels set in a waking nightmare. Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 3, 2020
